The Joyous Thing x No Bounds 2025

The Joyous Thing is a gathering of individuals and groups involved with experimental music and interdisciplinary performance. This edition takes place at No Bounds 2025 in Sheffield.

Member Meetup and Panel Talk

The Joyous Thing provides an opportunity for Outlands members to meet up and spend time together – we’re grateful to have the chance to do this across the weekend at No Bounds this year. On the Sunday afternoon we will also be hosting a panel discussion, workshops and other events in a programme put together in collaboration with Mark Fell and Rian Treanor, as detailed below. This will take place at Rotheram’s Hope Centre.

1-6pm: Chris Bilton (Labyrinthine Visions) Exhibition

2pm: Panel Discussion: Art, Culture and Solidarity in Times of Injustice

We are gathering artists and cultural workers to reflect on the ongoing genocide in Gaza and to ask urgent questions about our roles in moments of crisis. How can art and culture respond to violence, displacement, and censorship? What responsibilities do we hold toward those subjected to injustice? And how can we mobilize our practices, platforms, and communities in ways that enact care, solidarity, and resistance? Hosted by Rotherham Friends of Palestine, chaired by Hafsa Yusufi, with Terre Thaemlitz (online), Mahshid Alavi, and others to be confirmed.

15.30-16.30: Outlands Meet Up

16.30-17.30: Rashad Becker Workshop

DJ sets from 3pm onwards: RP Boo, Beatrice Dillon & Mat Steel (SND)

oram/100

This autumn The Oram Awards is embarking on a tour to uplift and inspire female and gender-expansive sound artists and musicians in communities and grassroots venues across the UK, in honour of Daphne Oram’s 100th birthday. Forming part of a national touring schedule, the appearance at No Bounds will feature a Daphne Oram Sound Archive Synth Workshop, facilitated by Lou Barnell and Quieting, and an afterparty with Chandé, Colecta, Gracie T, MYNA, and Shannon From Admin.

No Bounds

No Bounds is a celebration of art, music, technology, community, and radical joy, mixing business with pleasure, introspection with celebration, and activism with abandon — all in the name of connecting, challenging, and inspiring. This October the festival takes place in Sheffield and Rotheram.
